Dr Allatt astonishingly recovered from the rare condition, Locked In Syndrome, after her brainstem stroke at the age of 39. Imagine being able to think, feel, see and hear everything yet not be able to move a single muscle Kate experienced being hoisted, air mattresses and cushions which improved her quality of life as she was paralysed. She wrote about her ‘buried alive’ experiences in her internationally published book ‘Running Free: Breaking out of Locked In Syndrome’. Her awareness and subsequent global media notoriety about the improvement possibilities led to a surge in other families seeking her help who are affected by the condition worldwide.  So she founded and ran her registered charity, Fighting Strokes. She pioneered ESCAPS_feasibility research, is a global stroke peer mentor, a key opinion leader in stroke rehabilitation and is Ambassador for GripAble. Conference 2022 - Speaker - Paul Rackham

Paul Rackham

Strategic Support

—-

Conference Schedule:
Day Two – Wednesday 15th June 2022
14:00pm – Helping people have lives, not services

In this interactive talk Paul will challenge and support the audience to do three things:

Ask different questions.
Try different approaches.
Expect different results.

The talk will be tailored to an audience involved in the manufacturing, commissioning, prescribing, or delivery of community equipment and technology enabled care services.

Referencing co-production, asset-based community development, best practices in procurement and partnership development, and the integration of health, social care and housing.

With a sprinkling of digital technology.

Paul will ask us to consider – should we be judged on the products we make, the services we provide or the difference we make?

—-

With 25 years of experience as a social worker, and Head of Service in social care, leading assessment, provider and commissioning teams and two years working freelance, Paul has led and been involved with a wide range of service developments.

From working with family-led disability groups, to the early formation of the London Community Equipment Consortium, and the largest home-care tender across three central London Local Authorities, Paul has an appreciation of the need for scale and the place of community.

Always working with people who use services and the organisations they develop or use for support.

Always working with reducing budgets, complex decision-making environments and involving people of all backgrounds.

Always with compassion, integrity and good humour.

Always looking for the quick solutions while the long-term work carries on.

Across advocacy, community equipment, day-services, home care, integrated care, joint commissioning, learning disability, mental health, residential care, supported employment, and transition, Paul is still looking for better questions.

By meeting the unprecedented challenges of the last couple of years the NHS has adapted to new ways of working in record time, but that adoption was just the beginning. Health and Social Care is rapidly changing, and service and equipment providers need to know how the shift from CCGs to Integrated Care Systems will impact on the procurement process. Without a clear strategy, providers may risk getting left out of the running as contacts and bid requirements change. Can you afford to miss new opportunities to get your equipment or service embedded in patient pathways?

Key workshop takeaways:

  • Understand what the shift from CCGs to ICSs really means
  • Key changes in the procurement mindset
  • Recognising where the opportunities lie
  • Transforming patient pathways one solution at a time

—-

As a futurist, Wendy’s job is to make predictions based on in-depth research and facts. By identifying trends and explaining why they’re
important, her analysis of the bigger picture brings insight for the leaders and businesses she works with. Her experience spans 30 years and Health, Social Care and business sectors, influencing and developing private and public sector strategy and culture.
